Come and experience the tough life and expectations of a servant. Undergo a day of preparations and training for selection as a servant in the Manor of the Earl of Sandwich.
After a thorough inspection from the resident housekeeper the servants are put through their paces baking cakes for tea. This is then followed by a spell in the Victorian laundry and an opportunity to play traditional playground games.
The children experience the rigours of life in a Victorian school and then have to prove their skills as servants in their polishing and table laying lessons! Those deemed good enough are chosen to serve at afternoon tea.
Investigate the manor house looking for evidence of Victorian additions and alterations. Then handle artefacts to decide what they are and what they would have been used for.
Recreate a Victorian evening in the Parlour including recitations and playing games of the period.
Try your hand at the decorative crafts of decoupage and quilling.
Take your partners and learn to dance with the formality of a Victorian Evening. Learn the Military Two Step and the Polka amongst others.
Enjoy sitting at table, minding your manners as you are served a three course meal. Beware, some will be called upon to be servants waiting at table! Why not follow this meal with dance, crafts or parlour games.
Learn about Victorian Christmas traditions including making a christmas card and decorations. Cook some Christmas treats and finish the day singing carols as you decorate a Christmas Tree.
