Celts

This programme will enable your children to learn about the Celts within our  Ancient History Settlement. They will experience everyday life, including cooking, trades and pastimes. 

Cooking – ¼ day

Prepare and cook a simple meal. This will involve grinding cereals to make flour and bread, cutting up vegetables with appropriate tools as well as cooking fish in clay.

Weaving and Jewellery – ¼ day

Use drop spindles to spin your own woollen thread and use this to weave a piece of fabric. Make and decorate clay beads for a necklace. 

Wattle and Daub & Working with Wood – ¼ day

Build your own wattle fence enclosure. ‘Daub’ a wattle hurdle to weatherproof an early Saxon hut. Use Celtic tools to split wood.

Living as a Celt – ¼ day

Learn about the style of clothes and try some on. Use face paint to frighten the Roman Invaders.

Story Time – evening

Sit around the open fire and enjoy listening to stories as told by the Celts.

Celtic Art  – evening

The Ancient Celts expressed themselves through their beautiful artworks. Learn about grinding pigments to create coloured paints and make brushes to then help decorate the walls of our roundhouse.
